A no-fuss skincare routine for men

Googling ‘skincare routine for men’ brings up ~40 million results. What products to apply, in what order, for how long, the specific times of day, yada yada. And while it’s amazing to see people so passionate about creating the ‘perfect’ routine we know that the ‘perfect’ routine is often the one you stick to.

There’s no point building the perfect fitness regime if you don’t stick to it. There’s no point planning the perfect diet if you don’t follow it. And there’s no point getting a lot of fancy lotions and tinctures if you never use them. Following a good plan is better than avoiding a perfect one.

So with that said we wanted to dial back the complexity and turn up the simplicity. Below are our simple skincare tips to make looking after your skin a breeze.

The what.

What’s in a name? Well a lot if you’re one of these three skincare products. They do exactly what they say on the tin.

1. Face wash

…it washes your face

Your face is exposed to the elements ever minute of everyday and gets a build up of dirt and bacteria, which can clog your pores and increase the chance of acne. Wash your face morning and evening to get rid of the dirt and unwanted oils from your skin. Face Wash is just the tool for the job. Put a pea size blob of it on your hand then just add face and water. It’s got the added benefit of cleaning your hands too.

2. Face cream

…it creams your face.

A Face Cream puts moisture back into your skin. If you’ve been out in the sun all day, got out of a hot shower, or cleaned your face it can dry out the skin. Now’s the time to show it some love. As with Face Wash, put a pea size amount on your hand and rub it into your face, neck and behind your ears.

3. Sun screen.

…it screens the sun.

Sun Screen is the secret weapon in this list. If you’re going to look after your face then it’s worth protecting it from the sun. You skin takes a lot of rays everyday. And, particularly, if you’ve red hair or pale skin you’re more at risk for skin cancer even in the cloudier nations.

Apply another pea size dollop and apply it the same way as the Face Cream. It will stop the sun from stripping the moisture out of your skin and slow down the ageing process. Keeping you young.

4. Bonus tip.

Drink water. Face Cream moisturises your skin and Sun Screen stops the sun from stripping out the moisture. But if you’re not properly hydrated to begin with no amount of Face Cream and Sun Screen are going to help.

Try to drink 8 glasses a day. To help you remember, anytime you put anything in your mouth, coffee, soda, food, etc., grab some water. Drink more if you exercise, or you live somewhere hot (you lucky devil). And you’ll soon have skin that looks good from the inside out.

The when.

But when do you implement your skincare routine?

Morning and evening are best. You’re already in the bathroom to brush your teeth. Attaching a skincare routine to your toothbrushing is a great way to help you remember and stick to it. Every time you brush your teeth give your face a wash, and apply some Face Cream.

Sun Screen could be a bit trickier. You want to put it somewhere so you see it before you leave the house. You could put it in the bathroom and put it on after your Face Cream. Or put it beside your key bowl, or in front of your hall mirror. Apply some while you’re giving yourself a last check before you’re out the door.

The how.

So you’ve made brushing your teeth your cue for looking after your skin. Chances are you’re brushing your teeth when you’re sleepy, either first thing in the morning or last thing at night. You want to make sure you don’t forget because you’re tired. A simple way is to put your Face Wash and Face Cream in front of your tooth brush. That way you notice it when you’re picking up your tooth brush.

If you wash your face in the shower you could do something similar with your shampoo. Face Wash in front your Shower Foam. Face Cream beside your tooth brush, and Sun Screen beside your key bowl. And remember to drink water every time you eat or drink anything.

Use these easy cue to make everyday skincare part of your routine and you’ll be getting compliments on your skin in no time.
